Just days into the New Year and the Valley has already suffered a economic blow to an already suffering industry. United Hyundai closed its doors for good. No warning was given and now near 100 people are unemployed.
According to a woman who works across the street from the dealership the lot was full of cars just last night. This morning she came into work at 8:00am and said everything was gone. Along with those all of the cars gone, 98 employees lost their jobs.
Don Forman, the owner of United Hyundai says they had no intentions of closing. Forman says it was abrupt and the trickling effect of the United Dodge Chrysler Jeep closure last spring. He says they simply were unable to agree on financing terms with Bank of America.
Customers like Sid Gonzales are now left to deal with the mess.. He says he should have been given some kind of notice instead of being greeted by out of business signs out front.
"You think they would have called to tell us or something, but nothing was said this is crazy", said Gonzales.
The dealership officially closed December 30th. If you have a Hyundai warranty and have any questions you need to go to a Hyundai dealership. If you bought an extended warranty with United Hyundai you can go to United Nissan just up the street for any questions or concerns.
There are 4 million dollars worth of cars that will either be sent back to the dealership or be auctioned off if they are used.
