Some say funding education is much more than putting money in schools, it's investing in our future. And it's that future that is fighting back as students rally for fewer cuts to important school programs.
Students say everything from foreign language clubs to student government plays a role in their education. The Avid program helps students succeed in school with tutoring, while preparing them for college by helping them fill out applications.
It's on the cutting block at more than 20 schools.
"I think it is unfortunate that they are even considering it because if children really are the future, so many minority students are not going to college because they don't have the help," said Avid student Jacqueline Felix.
Students say they will continue to fight for these programs because to take them away would mean to rob the future of more rounded leaders.
